The Baldy View ROP Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program is a state and county approved EMT training school.  The course follows the new National EMS Education Standards which is based on the National EMS Core Content and the National EMS Scope of Practice.  The Baldy View ROP Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program has an experienced and dedicated group of instructors and administrators to assist students in their success in the program. Each instructor strives to create a supportive and challenging classroom atmosphere to encourage students to participate and learn.  All of the instructors are currently working in the field of emergency medicine with either a local fire department, ambulance provider, or a local emergency room.  The classroom instructors (7) bring just over a combined total of 125 years of experience to the classroom to facilitate a better learning environment for the students.  Students will have the material presented through powerpoint presentations, lectures, videos and manipulative skills demonstrations and practice, and simulated "real-life" scene scenarios to better prepare the student for entering the workforce as an competent EMT.

Students entering our EMT program will benefit from an increased instructor-student ratio during lectures and new skills demonstration, the use of currently working EMT's that have successfully graduated our program to increase small group practice to ensure mastery of the EMT skills, increased full skills class training sessions, increased training equipment for more hands on practice to eliminate "standing around" time.  Students are given the opportunity to contact the program director at any time to help answer questions during the semester to help facilitate a positive outcome for the course.

Since the adoption of the National Registry examination as the state EMT certification exam in January 2006, Baldy View ROP's EMT program currently has a first time pass rate of 83.0% and an overall 94.8% pass rate on its students passing the National Registry certification examination.  The national average from the National Registry for the EMT-Basic examination is only a 68% first time pass rate published in their 2008 annual report.

In July 2008, Baldy View ROP's EMT Program was recognized and recieved the award of a "Model Program" by the California State Board of Education.  Baldy View ROP's EMT Program is the first ROP EMT Program to receive this award in the State of California.  There were two members of the Board of Education that flew down from Sacramento to review the EMT training program for the model program nomination.  The EMT Program was reviewed in the following topics: DOT curriculum, lecture materials, skills training, quality and quantity of training equipment, and National Registry skills testing standards, ambulance provider ride along agreements, clinical emergency room shift agreements, and National Registry pass rates along with immediate job hiring post course completion.  Upon review Baldy View ROP was awarded "Model Program" status by the California State Board of Education.

Classroom Lectures:

The text book the EMT prgram is currently using is the Brady Emergency Care, 10th edition by Limmer.  Lectures will be delivered by using powerpoint presentations by the course instructors.  Student will be using the associated workbook with the textbook.  Students will also be using the Basic Life Support Skills textbook by Baxter Larmon and Heather Davis for reference when it comes to skills practice and testing.

Skills Training:

The skills training days have been mixed in with the class lectures to allow for the students to be exposed to new skills and the opportunity for plenty of practice throughout the course.  Baldy View ROP's EMT program has accumulated a large stock of EMS training equipment with which the students will be able to master their skills through continuous practice.  All of the EMS equipment the students will be training with is the same equipment and supplies emergency responders are using in the field and in the emergency rooms.
